Unfortunately we will be closed on Wednesday, August 21st. 2024.

In the AStA’s (General Students’ Committee) self-help bicycle workshop, you can fix your bicycle by yourself, supervised by an experienced mechanic. Here you can patch your flat tire, adjust your brakes, or accomplish more complicated projects. In the course of this you can access all kinds of (special) tools and get consultation and help. The use for students is completely free. Other users are asked for a small donation. The use of grease, oil, detergent, and lubricant is completely free as well. However, we do not take commissioned work, so you should not be afraid to get your hands dirty. But don’t worry: of course, we also offer soap and running water!

Who?

The bicycle self-help workshop is run by the student body. At the given opening hours, experienced mechanics await you. He or she will assist you at best and perhaps even lend you a hand sometimes. If the workshop is well visited at a certain time, we would like to ask for a little bit of patience. Our supervisors are trying to help every user as well and as competently as possible.

Where and when?

Our premises are located in the “glass box” near the main university library, between STA Travel and the Spardabank. In order to get there, you leave the U35 at the station “Ruhr-Universität” and enter the campus using the U35-bridge. Then you walk straight ahead towards the library and on the right-hand side you already see the “glass box”.

Opening hours:

Tuesday 12am-6pm
Wednesday 12am-6pm
Thursday 12am-6pm

By the way!

With us, you can find common spare and wear parts, like tubes, cables, chains etc., which you can use at an affordable cost price. The same goes for used parts, which you can use for a voluntary donation. Of course, we are not a commercial workshop, so we have no right to completeness. But our experienced mechanics usually take care of provisioning the most common parts.

Of course, we also like to accept donated items, which we gladly put back into circulation, wherever they are needed the most. So, if you have old bicycles or parts getting dusty in your basement and you don’t have anything to do with them, we’re always happy about growth in our inventory. However, the parts still have to be usable.
